Origin and Architecture

  • Design: Attributed to Gustave Eiffel, the same engineer responsible for the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris (although this authorship is not officially confirmed).

  • Construction: The house was built in Belgium by order of the Portuguese colonial government and sent to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in the late 19th century.

  • Style: Colonial architecture with European influence, made entirely of molded and fitted metal sheets.
