"About all darkness" with new season at Guimarães Rosa Institute

The novel by Mozambican writer Mélio Tinga is adapted for theater under the direction of Ramadane Matusse and resumes the debate about mental health and mourning.

"About all darkness" returns to the stages of Maputo for its second season, with performances scheduled for August 14th, 15th, 21st and 22nd, at 6pm, at the Guimarães Rosa Institute (IGR). The premiere session takes place next Thursday, August 14th, with tickets priced at 150 meticais for students and 250 meticais normal.

The work is a theatrical adaptation of the novel by Mélio Tinga, Mozambican writer winner of the INCM/Eugénio Lisboa Literary Prize in 2020. The show brings together actors Maria Auzenda and Paulo Jamine in the cast, with special participation by dancer Francisca Mirine.

The plot follows a man in emotional collapse after the tragic death of his wife, Susana. While trying to recover, he is haunted by memories, hallucinations and the enigmatic entry of a new woman into his life, Filipa. The plot revolves around the pain of mourning, guilt, and the complexity of unresolved affections.

It is an invitation to sensitive listening and dialogue about mental health, an urgent theme of our time.

The first edition of the play was presented in October and November 2024, at Teatro Avenida, with excellent reception from the public and critics, which motivated this new production.
