The Iron House is a prefabricated metal structure, built entirely of cast iron. It was designed in the 19th century and stands out for its innovative architecture, unusual for Mozambique's tropical climate.
Design: Attributed to Gustave Eiffel, the same engineer responsible for the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris (although this authorship is not officially confirmed).
Construction: The house was built in Belgium by order of the Portuguese colonial government and sent to Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in the late 19th century.
Style: Colonial architecture with European influence, made entirely of molded and fitted metal sheets.
